Reclaim Time
Intellego – Edition #013

Time is like sand. If you close your hands too much, time will slip through the fingers. And if you open your hands too much, time flies by.

Brevity
As the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer once said, "Life is a blow". How many of us feel we waste time? We don't make the most of our time. We don't create enough with our time?
There isn’t enough time. No matter what you do, the clock remains ticking. Hours pass by without us noticing them. It's incredible how fast time flies.
Despite the countless time-saving techniques at our fingertips, people today are no better at managing their time than they were a decade ago. Why is that? One word: distractions.
We define time as the progression of events from the past to the future, with the present serving as a transitory point of reference. It is intimately linked with the concept of space, and together they form the basis of spacetime in the theory of general relativity.
We experience time as a continuous flow. We measure it using clocks and calendars, allowing us to plan, coordinate, and understand the order of our experiences and actions. That’s our everyday life.
Time also holds significant philosophical and psychological implications, as we grapple with its perceived passage, our place in it, and the ultimate transience of existence.
The average human lifespan is absurdly short. By the age of eighty, we will have lived about four thousand weeks. A long journey for many, a blink of an eye for others.
What is a human lifetime compared to the oldest mountains on Earth aged approximately 3.5 billion years? A brief existence, dust in the desert, a breath, I would say.
“Time is like a handful of sand. If it's used wisely and patiently, you can create a kingdom. But if you don't take advantage of it, it slips between your fingers.”
Transience

Take the time you have left and truly live it!
Do you feel like there’s so much to do but so little time to finish them all? Are you struggling with managing your day-to-day tasks that it’s becoming more dragging and tiring? Is the quality of your work and life going downhill because there isn’t enough time?
Time management is not just about squeezing more tasks into a day. It's about recognizing the brevity of life and making the most of the time we have. It is an important tool for any industry sector - from healthcare to transportation.
As humans, we are all bound by time and space. But in agriculture, the seasonal or biological cycles of plants and animals also constrain our actions. Meaning, we have a limited window of opportunity to either succeed or fail in our efforts.
One aspect is certain. Effective time management is crucial for the success of any project or business. If you prioritize tasks, create a plan, and regularly monitor your progress, you will complete projects on schedule and meet your goals.
Understand, our time on Earth is fleeting. This realization can serve as a powerful motivator to utilize time wisely and pursue our passions with vigor. We cannot afford the luxury of procrastination and indecision.
Some say time is an illusion, an abstraction, a man-made concept. I'll let you meditate on it and form your opinion. However, there are two important events in the lifetime of any living creature: birth and death.
What occurs in between these memorable milestones, it's a result of your daily choices and your surroundings. Don't spend the finest hours of your day chasing fame, money and applause, only to end up sick, broken and full of regrets. Seek a purpose beyond yourself.
In the long run, we're all dead. Reflect on this statement and acknowledge that to yourself. Cultivate mindfulness and be intentional. Make conscious choices about how you allocate your time. Ensure that each moment contributes to your personal growth and fulfillment.
“Even in our best shape, we are a brittle piece of mortality. Your life is a breath, don't waste it.”
Presence

Enjoying the moment - Chain Bridge in Budapest.
Many of us find it difficult to plot our schedules ahead of time and adhere to them with no trouble. Because once we miss one meeting or appointment, everything else falls apart. Our never-ending to-do lists, overflowing inboxes, and the feeling that our attention spans were diminishing often consumed us.
However, to truly find peace of mind, we must address the most philosophical question of all times: how can we make the most of the present moment?
On average, you and I may live around 4000 weeks. Maybe more if we're lucky. In my case, I already spent 1844 weeks of my fleeting existence. How about you?
This realization prompts us to rethink our priorities and find balance amidst the chaos, ensuring we spend our limited time in meaningful and fulfilling ways.
Applying time management skills effectively requires a blend of self-awareness, planning, and the willingness to adapt. To support you on your mission, here are eight crucial time management skills:
Prioritization: Identifying what tasks are most important and urgent, focusing on those that align closely with your goals.
Planning: Allocating specific time slots for tasks, using tools like calendars and to-do lists to organize your day or week efficiently.
Delegation: Recognizing tasks that others can do and entrusting those tasks to them, freeing up your time for higher-priority work.
Setting Boundaries: Knowing when to say no to new tasks or interruptions that can derail your focus from your current priorities.
Goal-setting: Establishing clear, measurable, and achievable goals that guide your daily, weekly, and monthly plans.
Procrastination Management: Developing strategies to overcome delays in starting or completing tasks, ensuring steady progress towards your objectives.
Self-awareness: Understanding your productivity patterns, recognizing your strengths and weaknesses, and adapting your time management strategies to fit your personal work style.
Relaxation: Integrating leisure and relaxation into your schedule is essential for creativity. It reduces stress and keeps a balanced life.
You cannot regain lost time. It's not a renewable resource. Each moment is precious and unique. Time flows, air blows, the seasons come and go.
Perhaps this perspective can reshape our approach to managing time. It may involve setting boundaries, saying no to distractions, and focusing on activities that bring fulfillment and progress.
Managing your time well is not about doing more, but about doing what’s right for you, allowing you to enjoy life’s journey with a greater sense of purpose and satisfaction.
Tools such as the Eisenhower Matrix and the Action Priority Matrix can help you to reclaim time and get more clarity on your priorities.

We have little time to be happy, to live and enjoy our existence. Matter of fact, we're all running out of time. So, take the time you have left and be happy.
Happiness requires courage. How are you spending your time? Are you happy? Do you make people happy? Do you bring joy, love, energy, awareness, understanding wherever you go? I'm doing my part. Are you doing yours?
“We've been granted the mental capacities to make almost infinitely ambitions plans, yet no time at all to put them into action.”
Talk to you next week.
Light and peace,
