Experience

I went astray. I was completely unmotivated at work. It felt I was wasting my potential. Even though I’ve sought help from peers, I ended up in a vicious work loop.

Stress, fatigue, anxiety and brain fog were my daily companions. I almost lost it all to a professional burnout - health, relationships, job, self-image.

That was my rock bottom. Do you know those moments in life when you feel disoriented, exposed, and incapable? But how can you get out of the pothole that you put yourself in?

To overcome the chaos, I dived deep into myself. This often-underrated journey of self-discovery. The inner tourism allowed me to reassess my life and priorities.

Don't sweep your frustrations under the carpet. Instead, unveil them. You can’t move forward or start a new chapter without solving past wounds.

Engage in deep self-reflection. Through introspection you can gain valuable insights and set an alternative course for your life.

Absorb valuable lessons along the way, know where you stand, recognize your blind spots and improve aspects of your life as you progress.

We live in the age of superficiality and immediacy. The importance of self-knowledge has never been greater. There is only one way to go, inward.

It may sound counter-intuitive at first, but understanding yourself is a fundamental skill while managing others effectively. Leaders and organizations, no parsimony here. Motivate your team-members to know themselves.

Life is an excellent master. Be a dedicated student.

I encountered another version of myself with my resignation. Less concerned, more open-minded, lighter and subtle. It was time to look inside, understand what mattered to me. I've received an invitation from life to reflect and bring order to my chaos.

How could I react to all those happenings? And what were the self-knowledge tools within my reach? Many questions, few answers. But regardless of the uncertainty, I never stopped searching.

Sometimes destiny surprises us with unexpected challenges. But a moment of uncertainty is also an opportunity.

With the process of realigning personal values, prioritizing health and family time, I found a mission — writing, sharing insights on what life has taught me so far.

Respecting yourself more does not mean working less. It means setting boundaries, daring to say "no", rest more often and embody a growth mindset in all life situations. That's the foundation of sustainable productivity movement.

We all have limited time and resources, so you cannot say “yes” to everything. Sometimes, being great at one thing means refusing a plethora of other distractions to remain focused on the path.

Alert

Slow down and reflect on your choices.

It's a wonderful feeling to be passionate about your work. But it's imperative to love and respect yourself first. Maintaining a strong sense of self-worth will help you strike a healthy balance between dedication and personal well-being.

There's nothing wrong with being loyal to your organization, as long as you prioritize your own needs. Know your limits, take time to rest, and embrace opportunities to relax and recharge.

We're led to believe that we must constantly strive to please everyone and accept every demand. However, this mentality can be dangerous. After all, no one ever died from working, right?

I wouldn’t be so sure. Contrary to popular belief, people have indeed suffered severe consequences, including death from overworking.

In Japan, karoshi syndrome - death by overwork - has tragically claimed several lives over the past decade.

I share this information to debunk the myth that working excessively is harmless. It’s not. Everything done to excess comes with consequences, including work.

If you still choose to push beyond your limits, remember that I warned you about the potential risks. Your well-being should always take precedence over professional demands.

Companies that do not address the conflict between productivity and employee well-being risk losing talents and competitiveness.

I got it. Employee wellness is a subjective variable. It's difficult to measure. That's where leaders play a vital role in managing people and recognizing patterns.

But what about paying the same amount of attention to inputs (employee satisfaction, well-being, engagement level) and outputs - sales, customer satisfaction and revenue? Don't you think it's a fair deal?

Ignoring the resources and effort required to achieve results, and focusing solely on the outcomes, jeopardizes the long-term sustainability and overall value of endeavors.

How to balance work and social life? The line is tenuous

Sustainable productivity is a holistic approach that emphasizes efficiency and well-being in the workplace. It’s about creating systems and habits that not only boost output but also ensure the health and happiness of employees.

By focusing on long-term results rather than short-term gains, sustainable productivity fosters an environment where we can perform work at a consistent pace without leading to burnout.

This approach often includes implementing flexible work hours, encouraging regular breaks, and promoting physical activities that can help reduce stress.

The impact of sustainable productivity on work-life balance is profound. When companies adopt practices that prioritize the well-being of their employees, it leads to a more balanced lifestyle for the workforce.

Employees are less likely to work overtime and more likely to have time for personal pursuits and family. This balance is crucial for mental health, as it allows individuals to decompress and return to work refreshed and ready to contribute.

As a result, a positive work-life balance can increase job satisfaction, loyalty, and productivity.

In the era of remote work and digital connectivity, maintaining sustainable productivity and work-life balance has become even more critical.

The line is tenuous. We often blur the boundaries between work and personal life, making it essential for people to set clear limits and for organizations to respect them.

By embracing sustainable productivity, both employers and employees can create a mutually beneficial environment that supports professional growth, personal happiness, and overall well-being.

This balance is not just good for the individual, but it’s also good for the organization, leading to a more engaged and motivated workforce.

Strategies

Do you love what you do? Be vigilant!

Cultivate habits that balance efficiency with well-being into your daily routine. Here are seven strategies you can adopt:

  1. Prioritize Tasks: Identify the most important tasks and allocate time to focus on them. Use Eisenhower Matrix to reclaim time and get more clarity on your priorities.

  2. Set Boundaries: Establish clear work hours and stick to them. If you work from home, create a dedicated workspace and set boundaries with family or housemates to minimize distractions.

  3. Take Regular Breaks: Apply Pomodoro Technique. Work for 25 minutes and take a 5-minute break. This can help prevent fatigue and maintain a high level of productivity.

  4. Practice Mindfulness: Incorporate mindfulness practices into your routine. This could be a short meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simply be present at the moment.

  5. Stay Active: Regular physical activity is vital for mental health. Even a short walk or a quick workout session can boost your mood and energy.

  6. Plan for Downtime: Dedicate time for relaxation and hobbies outside of work. This helps to recharge and keeps you motivated.

  7. Reflect and Adjust: While wrapping up your day, reflect on what worked well and what didn't. Adjust your plan accordingly to improve your productivity and well-being.

Conclusion

If you don’t take care of yourself, who will? Self-care and mental health walk hand in hand. It's a daily commitment you have with yourself.

You’re the most important person in your life. If you don’t prioritize your well-being, you’ll hardly be able to handle your demands.

It makes sense to you? Because my role here is to remind you of this. But I also need your help to do your part.

How do you set yourself up for a good work-life balance? Afterwards, we all deserve a job that allows us to sleep peacefully at night.

Consider the indispensable elements of your daily routine. Those non-negotiable habits or activities that revitalize and rejuvenate you. What are the practices you rely on to maintain your energy and well-being?

Devotional, workouts, yoga, bubble bath, a massage, reading a book, drinking a cup of tea. What self-care practices do you prioritize in your daily routine?

I have three non-negotiable habits: meditation, reading, and exercises. They keep me balanced, sharp and healthy. What are yours?
